The Work type is an umbrella term for what the work order entails. What needs to be done; installation, repair, service? Based on the chosen work type, you can automatically have a standard work description put in the work order and a standard working time. This can of course be adjusted and specified before you actually plan the work order for the employee. By setting this up properly, you are one step closer to making OutSmart better adjusted to your company.

Go to Settings > Work order settings > Work type to create the types of work that suits the work that your company does. By default, you will already find a list of various activities here. You can edit it, delete it or add a new one.

When you add a new one, you'll see several fields you can fill in:

Name: Here you enter the name of the type of work. This name is shown in the list of Work types that you can choose from when creating a work order, but it can also be [shown on the work order](https://out-smart.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TIB/pages/418611265) that can be [emailed](https://out-smart.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TIB/pages/418709575) to the customer.

Description: If you want to give a standard description to the work order based on this Work type, you can fill in this field. This description will appear on the work order in the Work Description and can of course be edited per work order. This way you can also make a template of information that must be filled in anyway. The image above shows an example.

Standard number of minutes: Each work order should be given a number of minutes so that it has a start and an end time on the scheduler. By filling in the standard here, every work order of this Work type already gets a duration. This can of course be adjusted per work order. When you enter 0 here, our system makes it 120 minutes for that work order by default.

Checkboxes:

- Every work type that you want to be available to choose in a work order, should have the check box Active checked.
- You can check a Work type as Standard. If you create a new work order, this work order first gets this Work type and you no longer have to choose the Work type, unless it is a different type of assignment and you want to adjust the Work type. If you do not check a Work type as 'Standard', you must choose a Work type for each new work order before you can save the work order.
- In order to get the aforementioned Description in the work order at the time you choose this type of activity, the check mark 'Use description from work order' must be checked.
- By checking the 'Overwrite work description' checkbox, the work description is overwritten based on the Work type chosen. For example, if you had first chosen Service and then adjusted the type of activity to Repair, the work description will be replaced by the description that belongs to this type of activity. If you want the descriptions to come together on the work order ,when you first click Intake and then Installation (for example, if it concerns a combination assignment, of both Intake and Installation), then you must leave this check mark unchecked.

Then, for each Work type, you have the option to add a standard [material](https://out-smart.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TIB/pages/418414668) (for example, call-out rate) or form (for example, a checklist in the event of a malfunction). Also, a required skill and a standard document can be added based on the type of activity. These topics are not discussed in this essence of the implementation.
